C connaisssent them to me just tell you, I 10 albums of the year each month. For cons, I n'idolâtre than 2 groups, Voivod and The Jesus Lizard. So I attack with the first part of the disco Voivod: 1984 - 1993, or until the departure of singer Snake. Here we go! Voivoooooooooooooooooooood !!!!!!!!
War And Pain (1984, Metal Blade)
P o his first album, Québecquoises are very strong, very fast and very Bruille. Imagine a somewhat unhealthy coupling of Venom, Discharge, Motorhead and Philippe Druillet background of post-apocalyptic action movie very 80's. They are more punk than the punks, faster than groups HxC. For many beautiful blank, this record remains for me an absolute reference. Impossible not to bellow the chorus of "Voivod" (which is the recurring character of their albums) from the first listen. Superb artwork.
RRRÖÖÖAAARRR (1986, Noise)
S ECOND album, in line with the first, more metal, a little less can be good. Better control of instruments too. We feel that the group will evolve, but the mess remains cheerful, can be better organized, but enjoyable. Infamous pocket.
KILLING TECHNOLOGY (1987, Noise)
L a mutation in the band of barbarians thrash apart begins. Let me be clear right away, this album is the best thrash album ever released, tied with "Reign In Blood" at the limit, and in front of "Bonded By Blood". Past the stage of the ugliest cover the history of the 80's, and the intro that goes with it, we realize that the ambitions have been revised upwards. Longer titles, channeled aggression, and this use of dissonance that will be the mark factory group. Beware, it is violent, but it's smarter. We also feel the first signs of prog influences, well hidden under the distortion, and that it will also be a trademark.
Hatröss DIMENSION (1988, Noise)
C ONCEPT album completely delusional, this album is a giant step forward. It is really open thrash progressive: structures, tempo changes, melodies vicious, and especially subordinates music history. Snake tries to EDGE, with success elsewhere. Again, the group has not forgotten how to play fast, but more sparingly. The story, meanwhile, is as follows: after destroying the earth, creates the dimension named Voivod Hatröss with a particle accelerator (aheum * *). It gets stuck in and has lots of adventures more or less violent (it would not be in its place). Artwork up.
Nothingface (1989, Noise)
ssez A big box for this disc, and the big tour key. Musically, the prog side of the force still further, as the song. It changes tempo at all is, the melodies are nice, the texts still SF. Oh, and I almost forgot the famous (and clipped) cover of Pink Floyd (Astronomy Domine "). Some big hits, but its a bit lighter. Couv 'very amiga 500. End album of the thrash era.
ANGEL RAT (1991, MCA)
L e group loses its bassist here, and draws lessons from his tour with Soundgarden. Exit the metol, welcome to the world of rock. This disc is flawed, fucking well done. This is my favorite. downright psychedelic at times, almost punk rock in others, 70's too short, it abounds sec. The titles were especially more immediate. A disc essential history of rock. Superb artwork.
The Outer Limits (1993, MCA)
D ernie album before the start of Snake. They harden the tone a bit compared to "Angel Rat", but it's still esup rock, prog enough, yet. One or two tubes ("Fix My Heart," "We Are Not Alone"), the remainder assessed quiet. River as a title ("Jack Luminous" 17:26). this disc is ultimately harder to access than it seems, more subtle than a little hard hard rock, more hairy than progrockerie soporific. One of my favorites too. The artwork in 3D (glasses provided in the limited edition) make it a must have for fans of nerds conspiracy theories: graphically, it is in full mood with 50's comics and other aliens saucers.
